- Story Text: Germany's coach Rudi Voeller said on Monday (November
13) he is optimistic his team will win their friendly match
against Denmark on Wednesday in Copenhagen.
Germany's players met up from all over Europe in
Heusenstamm on Monday (November 13) to prepare for the
friendly international match against Denmark on Wednesday in
Copenhagen.
Rudi Voeller, who was appointed Germany coach on a
permanent basis last week after a being in temporary charge,
said some players would miss the game through injury.
"There are a number of injured players, nevertheless I
think we will be a strong team on Wednesday which will play a
strong game for 90 minutes and will do everything to win, like
in England" Voeller said.
Germany are trying to qualify for the 2002 World Cup,
which is to be staged in South Korea and Japan. They have
started their qualification well. They have won their first
two games in Group Nine against Greece and England.
"I think the coach of the national team is under a great
deal of pressure, especially since everyone is assuming we
will go to Japan. We have to qualify first, I don't want to be
pessimistic, we won two important matches, but we have a
number of difficult matches ahead of us. We have to qualify
first. I hope we will. I'm convinced we will. And when we are
there, we all know how we will be measured, namely by how far
we get. The pressure is there, but I can only repeat: I enjoy
the work here. It is better for me."
Germany's next World Cup qualifier is at home to Albania
on March 24, 2001. The other nation in Germany's group is
Finland.
