- Story Text: It will be a bountiful agricultural season in Thailand this year if predictions made at the annual Ploughing Ceremony are proven right.
The Ceremony, attended by the King and Queen of Thailand, is a colourful ritual, designed to bring luck and fertility to the year's crops.
Both Buddhist and the Brahmin faiths influence the Ploughing ceremony, which dates back to the Sukhothai period in the thirteenth century. As the King and queen look on, government and religious officials plough the ground with the help of sacred oxen, and then plant rice breeder seeds.
