- Story Text: The World Marbles Championship was held at the village in at Tinsley Green in the south of England on Sunday (28 April), and ended with a resounding victory for the team known as the Toucan Terribles.
In the game of marbles each player has his own glass sphere -- known as a tolley -- with which he tries to knock as many marbles as possible off a concrete slab.
In the finals, between the Toucan Terribles and the Rams, one of the Toucan Terribles launched himself on a brilliant break of 25 points. This was enough to win the game, since it was half the number of marbles on the slab -- the winning target.
Players of this ancient game are no mere dilettantes. Rain had forced them to abandon the Championships half way through a few weeks ago, but they gathered on Sunday to try again.
