- Story Text: West Germany and the Ivory Coast signed an agreement in Bonn on Tuesday (May 5) for a new 14.1 million marks (1,602,000 Sterling) development credit.
The Loan is for further work on the Joint Ivorian French-German development of San Pedro Harbour and surroundings, and additional credit to the Ivorian Industrial and Development Bank.
It brings West German Government participation in the harbour project to 34.1 million marks (3,875,000 Sterling), about 21 per cent.
The signing took place at the Foreign Office between the Ivory Coast Finance and Economics Minister Henri Konan-Bedie and the West German State Secretary Guenther Harkort.
West Germany has now given the Ivory Coast a total of 87.2 million marks (9,909,000 Sterling) in development credits, most of which was for agriculture in the northern Korhogo region, the Development Bank and the harbour project.
In another meeting in Bonn on Tuesday, the Minister in charge of Development Aid, Erhard Eppler, also pledged Bonn's help in principle for future water supply works in five Ivorian towns.
