Pakistan's 80 million Moslems joined their co-religionists throughout the world on Saturday (9 January) in celebrating the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. At the National Assembly building in Islamabad, the capital, President Zia-ul-Hua arrived to inaugurate a two-day conference commemorating the birth of the Prophet. He awarded three prizes to authors of biographies of Mohammed. In Rawalpindi, street processions were held, which included a float carrying a model of an F-16 aircraft. Children carrying copies of the Koran, the Islamic religious text, led the march, as the crowd chanted religious verses in a mixture of languages, including Arabic, Urdu and Punjabi.
