- Story Text: U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice meets with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. Rice might be addressing the issue of U.S. citizens being held hostage by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
On the same day that U.S. President George Bush gave his speech to the U.N. General Assembly, U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice met with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.
The two could be discussing the three U.S. contract workers captured by FARC in 2003 on a drug eradication mission.
Uribe and the FARC are deadlocked over possible talks on releasing kidnap victims for jailed rebel fighters in a humanitarian exchange.
Uribe has also been in talks with U.S. lawmakers on a free trade deal.
U.S. lawmakers are particularly worried about attacks on union leaders, extrajudicial killings and a scandal tying some of Uribe's allies to illegal paramilitaries.
Iraq Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki met with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi on Tuesday (September 25) at U.N. headquarters.
U.S. President George W. Bush told the Iraqi leaderTuesday that his government must do more to help advance national reconciliation. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
