- Story Text: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says Russia will use the upcoming G20 summit in London to try to reform the economic architecture to help with the global crisis.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday (March 2) that his country would propose economic reforms to help ease the global economic crisis.
Speaking at a Russia-Spanish Forum of Civil Society in Madrid, alongside Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the Russian president called for reform to the "obsolete economic architecture"
of the world.
"I think that during the summit in London in the near future all states will arrive at a consensus concerning the key problems to reform the economic architecture. We will initiate work to create new conventional rules that will determine the development of humanity for future decades," said Medvedev.
Before the forum, Medvedev was received by Spanish Mayor Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon at the old City Hall where he was given The Golden Key to the city.
The president which was on the second of a three-day visit to Spain was also earlier received with a full military welcome ceremony by the Spain's King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.
Medvedev arrived to the Spanish capital late on Sunday (March 1), accompanied by his wife Svetlana and Russian officials.
He is expected end the day at a banquet hosted by the royal family.
On Tuesday (March 3), Medvedev is scheduled to meet with Zapatero where he will promote a pan European security programme and sign several cooperation agreements to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries.
The two leaders will also discuss further measures to combat the current global economic crisis, the upcoming G20 meeting which will be held in London on April 2 as well as other bilateral issues such as Spain's 2010 EU Presidency and Russia's relationship with NATO. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
