- Story Text: A theatre troupe stage a puppet show in front of the Greek parliament building as French nationals turn out to support Greece's anti-austerity demonstration.
Greece's anti-austerity demo took a colourful turn on Wednesday (November 14) as a theatre troupe staged a puppet show in front of the country's parliament.
The band of puppeteers were joined by a group of French nationals who turned out in support of Greek demonstrators taking part in a pan-European day of action against austerity.
"God -- I am afraid of going hungry!" read a sign raised by one elderly protester.
Elsewhere, another group unfurled large Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Greek flags in front of the parliament building and donned white plastic bags to symbolise the asphyxiation they say the government's austerity measures are causing the people.
Leftists groups from other European countries, as well as a French community group in Greece, 'Francais Du Monde", came out to support the protesters.
A Greek puppet theatre group ended the demonstration of some 3,000 protesters with a performance staring a large white figure -- symbolizing Greece -- being struck and dragged down, but ultimately breaking free and rising again, surrounded by white doves of freedom. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
