- Story Text: Detained Burmese oppositon leader Aung San Suu Kyi said on Wednesday (August 25) that voters should not vote in upcoming elections if their choice would have been her opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
"She told us that she was hearing people ask on the radio who the people should vote for in the upcoming elections since their favourite NLD is not running in it. Her answer to this question is the people should not vote if they don't know who to vote for in the absence of the NLD," said Nyan Win, the chairman of the Yangon division office of the NLD.
Nyan Win, who is also her lawyer, met Suu Kyi in her house, where she yesterday (Tuesday) at her home where she is under house arrest.
"She also said that it's very unfair to name the election date at very short notice. It's an insult to the people," Nyan Win added.
