- Story Text: German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 sacked coach Felix Magath with immediate effect on Wednesday (March 16).
The club's board reached a unanimous decision, chairman Clemens Toennies told a news conference.
"We are convinced that we have reached a decision which is important and correct for the future of the club and for the trusting co-operation between the board and the management," he told journalists in Gelsenkirchen.
Magath, who has just steered the team to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, said last week that he had hoped to see out his contract until 2013.
He had been fighting a running battle with fans for months since edging out the fans representative on the board. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
