- Story Text: The town of Bracciano woke up on Sunday morning (November 19) as though the Hollywood wedding of the year had never taken place. The only thing remaining after Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes descended on the town for their wedding ceremony yesterday was a rather bitter feeling towards the two stars.
The streets were almost deserted -- a stark contrast to Saturday when thousands of reporters from all over the world and some of the top Hollywood names arrived for the wedding.
"They closed everything. No one could get in or out. I live in there and I couldn't get there unless escorted by the police like a criminal. It just wasn't right how they did it. It was nice that they came but they made a real mess of everything. Why didn't he at least make himself seen for the people who had been waiting since 8 in the morning? We only saw cars passing," said 70-year-old Giovanna Mignucci.
Many who had thought the couple would wave from a castle balcony after the ceremony were left disappointed.
"I just didn't see anything. Thank god it's all over though," said 73-year-old Vittorio Pasquale.
"They didn't look at the important things in life - the wave to the people waiting was something that should have been done. It is a matter of education," said Public Works Officer Armando Tondinelli.
Newspaper headlines summed up what most people felt about the whole episode: 'Invisible couple - fans protest', said one. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
