- Story Text: The Gulf International Industry Fair 2011 opened in Bahrain's exhibition and convention centre in Manama on Tuesday (February 8). It is considered one of the most important gatherings in the region for companies working in the industrial sector.
Taim Weser is a Spanish company that specialises in solutions in the business of bulk material handling, heavy and specialised lifting equipment, waste treatment and renewable energy, according to the company's website. Commercial director Simon Walli said there was a lot of interest in his company's services in the Gulf region.
"This is the second time we participated, the first time was last year. There is a slight increase in the participation in the fair even though there is a crisis going on - it has increased. As far as we are concerned, it's a regional fair, not just Bahrain. We focus on the rest of the GCC countries as well. We have met a lot of our clients and we have a lot of interest in certain parts of our business coming out of the region, yes," Walli said.
Alaa For Industry (AFI) is an industrial company that was established in Saudi Arabia. Branch manager Mr. Vigi said the fair in Bahrain gives the company an opportunity to explain its products to new and existing customers.
"We get a chance to meet new customers and introduce new products, and maybe to introduce some new products to the existing customers. And the customers and ourselves, we have a better understanding of the new products and the new market strategy."
The fair is being organised by Hilal Conferences and Exhibitions. This year, 100 exhibitors participated from 16 countries around the world. Hilal's senior project manager Badia Isa Marzoq said there was a huge demand for better infrastructure in the Gulf region and government spending in this area had increased.
"Of course the fair is important especially because the region spent 30 billion dollars approximately on non-petrol industries. Now there is a trend to concentrate on other industries than petrochemicals. The demand for infrastructure in the Gulf region is huge, in Saudi Arabia and Qatar for example, they are constructing new cities to attract the industrial companies."
