- Story Text: Anyone looking for a reduced history of Bulgaria can visit the country's miniature exhibition which is currently on display in Sofia.
Creator, Suni Suninski has just unveiled the 50th item for the collection, a miniature of the historic ship Radetzki. The Austrian ship was taken over by a band of revolutionaries in 1876, under the leadership of Bulgarian hero, Hristo Botevand was sailed over the Danube from Romania to Bulgaria. There, the revolutionaries fought against the Ottoman army, and Botevand was shot dead.
Other models in the exhibition include the Rila Monastery, the medieval fortress Tsarevets of Turnovo and Bulgaria's smallest town of Melnik.
No model is bigger than 120 centimetres, and they represent key turning points in Bulgaria's history as well as aspects of Bulgarian culture. There are also models of recent archaeological findings.
"I want to present Bulgaria in (an) emotional way," said Suninski.
"When...visitors see the models, I want them to feel what Bulgaria is. So that's why our idea is to make not just these fifteen models, but maybe to build our building and to present one hundred and fifty, maybe a thousand models who can emotionally present Bulgaria around the world," he added.
Visitors appeared to delight in having the culture and history of Bulgaria made so accessible.
"We liked the exhibition very much, especially my boy. It is very nice to be able to see all those historical monuments under one roof. This way more people will be able to see them," said one woman.
"It's great, it's cool. Nice to learn about the different places that you can go to and like the traditional people, or whatever, like that," said a young boy.
More than 20,000 people have seen the exhibition as it toured around Bulgaria over the last six months. It is now on display at the Culture Ministry in Sofia. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
