- Story Text: A video production studio in Moscow has come up with an animated 'role model' for young people, which draws inspiration from Russia's military campaign in Syria.
A design studio called Patriot produced a cartoon telling the story of Andrey Timoshenkov, a marine who was killed in the province of Homs in June 2016.
"We saw a video where a militant car broke through to the spot where humanitarian aid was being handed out in Syria," Yulia Yaropolova, a project manager at studio Patriot explained.
The cartoon accurately reproduces the story told in the media, of the Russian serviceman who was guarding a humanitarian convoy and prevented an attack from a suicide bomber. A militant vehicle charged with explosives went off taking the life of the soldier.
The members of the team said they felt the urge to preserve the commitment of Timoshenkov for the younger generations.
"We are showing real examples, role models for growing young people, so that they can see how the real heroes behave," said a mentor of the educational programme at Studio Patriot, Ilya Levchenko.
He said there were plans to continue the animated series, describing the patriotic endevours of other Russians.
"We are planning to make a season of 10 to 15 series in such a genre before rising to another level and doing something more serious, complicated and long," he said.
The studio is a part of a larger designer project called Set - 'network' in Russian - which organises art, design and education events around the country. The walls of the office are covered with portraits of Russian president Vladimir Putin. Maria Alyoshina who manages public communication at Set said however that the projects they run are not backed by any political force.
"Now modern Russia and our president are a brand, it is hard to argue with this. And I agree that we make use of this in some points. But... we are not hyping up anyone or anything like this. We are simply showing the real picture," she said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
