  • Story Text: Russian and Belarusian defence ministers met in Moscow today (October 20) to dicuss military cooperation between the two neighbours.
    After the meeting, Russian Defence Minister, Sergei Ivanov, commented on the nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula, as well as an upcoming visit by U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.
    "Russia's position remains the same --- the Korean peninsula should retain its non-nuclear status, and all the consequences that this entails. As far as our appraisal of the situation regarding the Korean People's Democratic Republic's test of a nuclear device we already expressed our position and there's nothing new to say."
    U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, is expected in Moscow on Saturday (October 21) for talks with Ivanov and other top Russian officials.
    "We are expecting Condoleezza Rice's visit to the Russian Federation, and a meeting with her is planned, and if time and circumstances allow I will be happy to meet with her. Such meetings are already a regular occurence. We have constant contact. Of course we will discuss the North Korean nuclear problem, but this isn't the only issue that we will discuss."
