- Story Text: David Beckham helped UNICEF celebrate its 70th anniversary by lighting New York's Empire State Building's tower lights blue on Monday (December 12).
UNICEF began after World War II as a way to help children get back to a normal life.
Beckham has been an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for 11 years and have worked with the organization for 15. In February 2015, the father of four founded The David Beckham UNICEF Fund in order to raise money and awareness for protecting children from violence.
"I'm very proud of what we've done, but there's a lot of work still to be done around the world. A child dies every 5 minutes from violence against them around the world. The great work that's done by UNICEF is pretty incredible, but there's still a lot of work to be done," said Beckham.
The former soccer star was joined with three children who have benefited from UNICEF as he flipped the switch on the iconic building. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
