- Story Text:Oscar winning director Darren Aronofsky and IWC Filmmaker award recipient Tran Anh Hung walked the red carpet on Saturday (November 26) before attending the Singapore International Film Festival benefit dinner.
The Singapore International Film Festival, which will screen more than 160 films from the city state, as well as from around the world, opened on Wednesday (November 23) with Malaysian film 'Interchange' and Singaporean film 'The Pursuit of a Happy Human Life'.
Actors and directors from around the world attended the For The Love Of Cinema benefit dinner on Saturday.
"You know I've not been to Singapore before so I'm excited to see and to meet some of the filmmakers tonight and pick their minds about what I should be seeing and celebrate them, it's their night too and i don't know, meeting some new people in my industry," said actor James Marsden.
Darren Aronofsky, who spoke at a masterclass during the festival on Friday (November 25), acknowledged the growing interest audiences in Asia for international cinema.
"Absolutely, I mean, It's a huge part of the market, you can't really release a film anymore without considering that," he said.
Vietnamese born director Tran Anh Hung, who also spoke at a masterclass during the festival, was the recipient of the IWC Filmmaker Award during the event, the first to be awarded in Singapore.
"It's a moment of joy and honour for me because you know when you are making movies, it's so difficult so sometimes you need that kind of moment you know, it brings you back you know enthusiasm and energy so it's really good," he said.
