- Story Text: U.S. troops marked the annual holiday of Thanksgiving thousands miles away from home on Thursday (November 24) in South Korea.
A traditional meal including turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing were served to soldiers at the U.S. 210th Field Artillery Brigade, based in Dongducheon, north of Seoul.
"I think the event here today is a great celebration for the soldiers they get to eat a great meal and see their leadership. The leadership is all here supporting and it's great for them and it also gives them a chance to just seat back relax, enjoy the day and maybe not think about the hard times we're on through during in Korea," First Sergeant, Brian Edward, said at the dinner.
"It's weird that it's my first time ever spending thanksgiving away from my home. But honestly this spread out here it's so nice all the food and they do the really great job making everybody feel kind of like, kind at home. It's really nice," Private 2nd Class (PV2), Hunter Whitfield, said.
About 28,500 U.S. troops based in South Korea are helping to defend the country against nuclear-armed North Korea, which has remained in a technical state of war with the South since the 1950-53 Korean conflict. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
