- Story Text: Former 'Bay Watch' actress and activist Pamela Anderson is doing her part to draw attention to animal rights. Anderson hosted PETA's (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) first ever Humanitarian Awards at Stella McCartney's fashion boutique in London on Wednesday (June 28).
The actress and model wasn't bashful about stripping down for a photo opportunity to promote PETA's message denouncing the use of animal fur or skin in fashion.
"I would definitely rather be naked than wear fur, I would probably rather be naked than wear clothes, so I am not a good person to ask," she joked with reporters. "...it is hard to talk me out of a good time."
Anderson posed naked for photographers with two other models in the store window looking out on to the street, standing behind a strategically placed banner proclaiming 'We'd rather bare skin than wear skin'.
Wednesday's awards ceremony honoured high profile and celebrity campaigners against animal cruelty.
On a more serious note, Anderson criticised fellow Hollywood celebrities who wore animal fur or skin - particularly stars with their own clothing lines.
She singled out Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce Knowles as examples.
"Well especially the one's that are starting top put them in their clothing lines like J-Lo (Jennifer Lopez) and Beyonce (Knowles)" she said. "They are such beautiful women and they're such smart, great role models that it's really important for them to be very conscious about what they wear. Especially as they're fashion icons, so it's really sad to me to see them wear that because I don't that young girls are thinking about the cruelty that goes into the clothing line, they're thinking about, y'know, 'Beyonce is wearing this or J-Lo'. So they're beautiful girls and they should, I think-- I would hope they don't continue to put that in their line."
Beyonce Knowles had recently been targeted by PETA: the pop star was ambushed by members of the animal right's group posing as fans who had won an auction to have dinner with her. The PETA representatives showed up to the dinner asking Knowles questions about animal cruelty.
Other celebrities attending Wednesday's event included singer Chrissie Hynde, actress turned Fashion Designer Sadie Frost, former 'X-Files' star Gillian Anderson and UK band 'Muse' lead singer Matthew Bellamy. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
