- Story Text: Within a few hours in between, two separate car bombs blew up in Baghdad's predominantly Shi'ite district Karrada, killing at least seven people and wounding 14 others. A car bomb in Karrada, in central Baghdad, killed five people and wounded 10 on Tuesday (February 27), just hours after another car bomb in the same district killed two people and wounded four, a police source said.
The blast was caused by explosives in a car parked outside Al-Faqama ice-cream, one of Baghdad's popular venues. It exploded shortly after an official convoy passed by, a police source said.
Just a few hours earlier, two people were killed and four others wounded in a separate incident also in Karrada, when a car bomb exploded next to civilians on a busy commercial street.
U.S. and Iraqi forces launched a major security crackdown in Baghdad earlier this month but insurgents have kept up their campaign of bombings and suicide attacks. U.S. officers warn Iraq could descend into civil war unless violence is curbed.
In Tayaran Square, central Baghdad, a roadside bomb also killed another two people on Tuesday (February 27), and wounded 11, police said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
