Story Text: Chile's Defence Minister Patricio Rojas presided over war games held by the country's armed forces on Friday (July 27) alongside armed forces Commander and former ruler General Augusto Pinochet.
the military exercises at Peldehue, 50 kilometres (about 30 miles) from Santiago, were the first to be presided over by a civilian ministers since a military coup in 1973. General Pinochet, who took power in the 1973 coup, handed over to the civilian government of President Patricio Aylwin in March.
The army displayed many new weapons by firing rifles, hand grenades, mortars and flame-throwers during a simulated battle between two countries.
