I felt they had given a lot in the first half to chase and be focused to defend well, and we took advantage of that in the second half." MEDIA AT NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (English) ARSENAL MANAGER ARSENE WENGER SAYING: "What happens in the Champions League is that teams who play in the Champions League are used to dominating their [domestic] championship and they play. You do not only play against teams who defend. When you are then superior you always have a chance to score goals. WIDE SHOT OF WENGER AT NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (English) ARSENAL MANAGER ARSENE WENGER SAYING: "If you wanted someone to score a goal for Shakhtar Donetsk it was Eduardo because everybody has many good feelings for him. Everybody knows what a player he was when he arrived and what he went through, and his attitude has always been great. We are all happy for him." SHAKHTAR DONETSK POST-MATCH NEWS CONFERENCE WITH MANAGER MIRCEA LUCESCU WALKING IN (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHAKHTAR DONETSK MANAGER MIRCEA LUCESCU SAYING: "We couldn't play an offensive game. But I think we were very organised. Unfortunately, it was a big mistake by Pyatov, who gave Arsenal the opportunity to go up one-zero and after another very very big mistake from a player like Srna, for the second goal. But in all this period, I think we were at the same level as Arsenal." LUCESCU LEAVING NEWS CONFERENCE

- Story Text: Arsenal produced another Champions League demolition job at their Emirates fortress on Tuesday (October 19), thrashing Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 virtually to assure their progress to the knockout rounds.
The Londoners hit Braga for six without reply in their opening Group H clash in September and were at it again against joint group leaders Shakhtar after easing into a 2-0 halftime lead with goals by Alex Song and Samir Nasri.
Cesc Fabregas, back from a month-long injury lay-off, put the game beyond the Ukraine champions with a 60th minute penalty before young England midfielder Jack Wilshere and Marouane Chamakh increased the visitors misery.
Arsenal moved to a maximum nine points with Shakhtar on six.
"I believe that our technical quality slowly got them tired and, especially in the second half, the goals came with one-twos or possession," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told a news conference after the match.
"I felt they had given a lot in the first half to chase and be focused to defend well, and we took advantage of that in the second half."
Wenger praised Shakhatar for bringing a positive attitude to the match, albeit it one that worked to his team's advantage.
"What happens in the Champions League is that teams who play in the Champions League are used to dominating their [domestic] championship and they play. You do not only play against teams who defend. When you are then superior you always have a chance to score goals."
Former Arsenal player Eduado scored Shakhatar's only goal and was given a rousing reception by the crowd after he refused to celebrate. Wenger said the crowd noise was a fitting tribute to a player Gunners' fans would always remember.
"If you wanted someone to score a goal for Shakhtar Donetsk it was Eduardo because everybody has many good feelings for him," Wenger said.
"Everybody knows what a player he was when he arrived and what he went through, and his attitude has always been great. We are all happy for him."
It was a hugely disappointing night for Shakhatar with their manager Mircea Lucescu lamenting two big mistakes from goal keeper Andriy Pyatov and defender Darijo Srna.
"We couldn't play an offensive game. But I think we were very organised," Lucescu said.
"Unfortunately, it was a big mistake by Pyatov, who gave Arsenal the opportunity to go up one-zero and after another very very big mistake from a player like Srna, for the second goal.
"But in all this period, I think we were at the same level as Arsenal."
