- Story Text: Maria Sharapova won an exhibition match against fellow Russian Anna Chakvetadze in Singapore on Sunday (December 30).
The world number five won the first set 6-0 but the sixth-ranked Chakvetadze fought back in the second set, forcing the tiebreaker which Sharapova eventually won 12-10.
Sharapova, who on Saturday (December 29) promised she would be taking the match seriously as it was one of her few warm ups for the Australian Open, now heads for Hong Kong to play in the JB Group Classic tournament from January 2-5. Her first match will be against 17-year-old Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, ranked 60 in the world, on Wednesday (January 2). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
