- Story Text: Princess Elena of Avalor made her debut at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California on Friday (November 18) as the first Latina princess in the history of the theme park.
The character of Elena was first introduced in July of 2016 in Disney's animated TV series "Elena of Avalor" and was inspired by diverse Latin American cultures, resort spokeswoman Mirna Hughes said.
"Her family is Latin American and Hispanic, so naturally, we're so happy to share this rich, cultural tapestry," said Hughes.
At Disneyland, guests will be able to interact with Princess Elena at the different character greeting locations and see her perform during the "Princess Elena's Musical Grand Arrival" cavalcade throughout the day.
"Here at Disney we have so many beautiful stories and many stories from all over the world, so this was a great opportunity to bring to life culture, traditions and history through a Princess," said Hughes.
The introduction of Princess Elena marked the theme park's kick-off of the holiday season with their new "Festival of Holiday", which is designed to combine seasonal celebrations from various cultures.
"We took all these different holidays that are inspired by all these different cultural activities and festivities and bundled them together into this wonderful event that brings everybody together, no matter what you're celebrating, no matter where you come from," said Disneyland's Susana Tubert.
The holiday celebration at the Disneyland Resort runs through January 8, 2017. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
