- Story Text: Werder Bremen victory against Real Madrid would revive their hopes for qualification for the Champions League last 16.
German coach Bernd Schuster will not feel in any way at home when his Real Madrid team play Werder Bremen in Champions League Group C on Wednesday (November 28).
Real just need to avoid defeat to secure a place in the last 16 and given that Werder will be without playmaker Diego through suspension and goalkeeper Tim Wiese through injury the coach should be feeling confident.
Bremen are bottom of Group C with three points but victory on Wednesday would revive their hopes of qualification, and leave Real work to do in a tricky final game at home to Lazio.
"I think that we have a healthy confidence, I think you can see that in most games, only tomorrow is a completely different situation, tomorrow we are playing in the Champions League against Real Madrid, so it is a bit different. But I think we have got a good team together, and if we give it our all tomorrow right from the start, then I think we have a chance. We have seen from the first leg that they are vulnerable, and so we hope that there will be more such situations and that above all we can take advantage of them," Bremen midfielder Tim Borowski told news conference on Tuesday (November 27).
Real will be relieved that Brazilian midfielder Diego will be absent after his sending-off against Lazio.
Wiese's muscle injury means Christian Vander will be in goal, while Werder will also be without Portuguese forward Hugo Almeida and German midfielder Torsten Frings.
"I don't see it as being that difficult. I think they are all motivated enough, on the one hand to play against such a strong opponent, and on the other hand to know that they have to achieve something if they want to go the next step, and I think the boys have taken a lot on," said Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
