- Story Text: Germans woke up on Sunday (July 4) with the pleasant prospect of a semi-final match against Spain after dominating Argentina in their quarter-final match on Saturday (July 3).
Germany demolished Argentina 4:0 in what local newspapers were calling a historic game.
Fans in Berlin were surprised that Germany managed to flatten Argentina so effectively and are now looking forward to the next game.
Deborah and Regina, posing with a German flag, are even thinking about Germany becoming world champions.
"Yeah, it's the best Germany game I've seen so far. Very convincing. And you can just see that Germany could become world champions," Deborah said.
"I thought it was great. Really good even. Against Argentina. I would have thought that Argentina would win but Germany has really showed how they can make it, " Regina added.
Germany will need to replace suspended four-time goal scorer Thomas Mueller when they take on Spain in their World Cup semi-final on Wednesday (July 7) but that will be no problem for coach Joachim Loew.
Christian Petschik also has high hopes for the team of young players.
"We are now going to be world champions four times," he said. "With such a young team, Argentina was just lucky that they got away with four goals. They are going to be a great team for a very long time. Yeah, I think so. Because they play a totally different football. They are free and I think, I mean nothing against Michael Ballack (original captain who was injured and had to pull out of the World Cup) but they are just playing so unfettered and that is going to make them a great team for a very long time. Whether it's enough this time round I don't know but in the next years they'll be the world's top team," he said.
It is not just soccer fans who are impressed with Germany's passage into the semi-finals. Others are being tempted to watch the later games of the World Cup and enjoying what they see.
Philipp Deroulez said: "I am not from Germany and am not at all interested in football but they did play well. I watched 20 minutes and saw one goal or two. And I really enjoyed it." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
