- Story Text: A newly created set of drop earrings featuring a pair of large pear-shaped diamonds go on Display in Geneva on Thursday (November 10) ahead of next week auction where it is seen fetching up to $30 million.
"It is extremely rare to find this kind of quality with stones or diamond when you know that in all the world production, less than one per cent of diamonds will be of color D, which is the most beautiful color for diamonds. This set of drop earrings designed by Boehmer and Bassenge in a Paris atelier is estimated CHF 20-30 million ($20-30 million)", specialist for the jewellery department at Christie's Geneva, Jean-Marc Lunel, told Reuters.
The "flawless quality" diamonds, resembling teardrops, weigh 52.55 and 50.47 carats. They will be offered without a reserve price, something very rare in the auction world for jewels of such importance.
"There will be no minimum price and each and everyone will be able to participate at their level", Lunel said.
The set called "Miroir de l'amour" will form part of the Christie's "Magnificent Jewels" sale in Geneva on November 15, alongside a fancy vivid pink pear-shaped diamond ring of 9.14 carats that is expected to fetch $18 million.
"Pink diamonds are much sought after these days, prices continue to rise. We saw the results, for example last year; we sold a 16-carats pink diamond for $28 million and it's very likely that this one also achieve a record, it is estimated $16-18 million", Lunel said.
Other sparkling earrings, necklaces and rings will also be offered in the sale. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
