The first time I read the script I was like I mean there were so many things when I connected to with this character and in the story and the other characters. So much of her really is me. Her awkwardness level for one." Those questions being who are we and what are we good at. And what is our place in this world how and what are we supposed to do to fit in, do we even want to fit in. - Story Text:Hollywood star Hailee Steinfeld's promising film career is more the reflection of classic grace than the angst-filled role she plays on screen in the coming of age teen film, "The Edge of Seventeen," which premiered on Wednesday night (November 09) in Los Angeles.
"This movie, this Character is trying to answer those questions that we ask ourselves daily," explained Steinfeld, who told Reuters that she shares many qualities with her on screen character Nadine.
"Those questions being who are we and what are are we good at. And what is our place in this world how and what are we supposed to do to fit in, do we even want to fit in. It's questions that I've been trying to find the answers to myself for that last couple of years of my life."
Written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, "The Edge of Seventeen" is a coming-of-age movie that offers an honest, candid, often comedic look at what it's like to grow up as a young woman in today's modern world. Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista. All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.
Kyra Sedgwick, who plays Nadine's well-meaning but completely ineffective mother, remembers her high school days less than fondly.
"I don't really know why. I think that a lot of things are happening physically to us, as teenagers that we don't really understand," said Sedgwick. "And our brains are not fully formed and I think it's a time of deep reflection and self loathing."
Sedgwick also weighed in on the Donald Trump's shocking victory over Hillary Clinton.
"I feel mostly just very sad about the state and division of this country," said Sedgwick. "I feel like I want to get on the bus with other like lefties like myself, who live in New York and L.A. and go in the middle of the country and like let's talk about what makes us similar instead of what divides us, our shared humanity, let's talk about our hopes and dreams for the future of our lives and the future of our children' s lives."
