- Story Text: German prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation against unknown persons on Tuesday (August 24) after the pilot of a small sports plane discovered a large swastika trampled into a corn field in the country's southern region of Bavaria.
According to Ingolstadt police, the banned right-wing symbol measures some 20 by 20 metres.
Munich prosecutors started their investigation, police said by telephone.
An Ingolstadt police spokesperson did not want to elaborate whether the incident was related to extreme right-wingers.
According to one newspaper report, extreme right-wingers were active in the town in the past.
Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper quoted the mayor of Assling as saying that "people from elsewhere" could be responsible for the criminal act when they visited a festival at a nearby small airport last Saturday.
Police refused to comment on the speculation.
