It's very difficult to change. APEC is a forum for cooperation. It has no obligation to open up further, though its objective is in that direction, and with the United States and China there, it is a very interesting space for dialogue between the big powers, and where I do not think any (policies will be imposed, because that is not the model, but rather it is one of applying pressure among partners, of cooperation, of finding consensus. So we will see what happens in the APEC, of course the new president-elect (Donald Trump) will not be coming, but the current president, (Barack) Obama will come. But I think they should not break the dynamic of something which is so well-established. Our objectives run until 2020." ARAOZ DURING INTERVIEW

- Story Text: The Peruvian Air Force carried out simulations of special security operations on Thursday (November 10) in preparation for the APEC summit in the capital, Lima, in one week's time.
The air force carried out simulations of potential attacks in preparation for the arrival of heads of state to the Presidential Summit for the Forum of Asian and Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) scheduled between November 17 - 19.
Air Force General, Luiz Gonzalez, explained the operations.
"All the training that we are seeing is the training that the Air Force has done for the APEC summit, which will begin soon. Training of our personnel is basically constant, especially for unpredicted situations which could arise. For this event, we have close to 200 soldiers looking after the facilities, as well as personnel from the Defense and Special Operations unit. There must be an average of 60 who are here and are attentive for any type of unpredicted situation which could arise," said Gonzalez.
The personnel are being trained for a range of operations, including hostage situations, firefighting, and anti-drug trafficking.
Looking ahead to the summit, Chinese officials said on Thursday, they would seek support for a Beijing-led Asia-Pacific free trade area, after Donald Trump's U.S. election win dashed hopes for a U.S.-led free trade pact.
Peruvian Vice-President, Mercedes Araoz, expressed her hopes for the conference on Wednesday.
"APEC is an institution. But I think they should not break the dynamic of something which is so well-established. Our objectives run until 2020," said Araoz.
