- Story Text: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Wednesday (November 9) he was looking forward to working with future U.S. President Donald Trump, while opposition party leader Renho expressed surprise at the election results.
"I hope to work with the next U.S. President Trump on many global issues. I'm looking forward to working with him," Abe told reporters after Donald Trump defied predictions and beat Democratic rival Hillary Clinton to take U.S. presidency.
"To be frank, I was surprised. It makes me wonder why there's such a gap between all of the polls and what actually happened," Japan's opposition Democratic Party leader Renho said at a news conference.
"I honestly feel that Hillary Clinton's challenge was commendable, but it wasn't enough. The glass ceiling was much higher than expected," Renho added.
Renho is one of the rare high profiled female politicians in a male-dominated world of Japanese politics and had been often compared to Hillary Clinton, especially due to her white pant-suits. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
