While we are waiting for solutions from abroad, they come up with a racist and sectarian president who is against the Syrian revolution. This is very bad news today, we were hoping for an American president who would help find solution and calm the situation down so we could go back home but we were surprised by the winning of a racist and sectarian president who is against the Syrian revolution. If we had a little hope to go back home, we don't anymore. On the contrary, we now feel that all the countries became against us." - Story Text: Syrian refugees living in Lebanon had mixed reactions on Wednesday (November 9) to the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election, some fearing his victory would bring them more despair while the others putting their hopes in him and wishing him success.
"This is very bad news today, we were hoping for an American president who would help find solution and calm the situation down so we could go back home but we were surprised by the winning of a racist and sectarian president who is against the Syrian revolution. If we had a little hope to go back home, we don't anymore. On the contrary, we now feel that all the countries became against us," said Oussama Battar, a Syrian refugee from Homs.
But another man from Homs hoped Trump would help refugees return home.
"We don't hate anyone. We love everyone. We hope he will be a man of peace and solve our problems in Syria so we could return home. We wish him all the best in his work," said Abdel-Wahad Ahmad Karzoun.
Trump stunned the world by defeating heavily favoured Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's (November 8) election, ending eight years of Democratic rule and sending the United States on a new, uncertain path. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
