It's a surprise to everybody, you don't expect that to happen. You wake up in the morning thinking Hillary Clinton is going to be the president and lo and behold...Trump. We were just talking about it in the tube earlier, the expression 'You've been Trumped' again is going to be coming out in the near future." (SOUNDBITE) (English) LONDON RESIDENT, ELEANOR GRIFFITHS, SAYING: "I probably wasn't as surprised as I thought I would be. I think like with Brexit people don't want to think it is going to happen but then think it might happen." (SOUNDBITE) (English) LONDON RESIDENT, OLLIE SMITH, SAYING: "I think it is quite similar to Brexit in that it's quite bad first off, but I don't think anyone really knows what is going to happen. It's going to be quite uncertain today, I think on the financial markets, and things could see quite a lot of problems, unfortunately." (SOUNDBITE) (English) LONDON RESIDENT, WENDY HILTON, SAYING: "Considering the Brexit vote not massively surprised but, yeah, it's just really unfortunate. I think I'm more saddened than anything else." (SOUNDBITE) (English) LONDON RESIDENT, PAUL SINCLAIR, SAYING: "Just looking at the news this morning, bit shocked really, I suppose. It's a bit like Brexit all over again really isn't it? What can you say? I mean, it's a difficult situation because to be honest, I wouldn't have voted for either, but the decision has now been made and the American people have spoken and I suppose the world's got to lead with that. You've got a good businessman in the White House but he's got some crazy ideas." (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED MAN, SAYING: "Worried, I'd say." - Story Text: Londoners relived the shock of the Brexit referendum result as they woke up Thursday (November 9) morning to the news Donald Trump had won the U.S. Presidential election.
As City workers hunched under umbrellas in the pouring rain, they had one thing in common.
"It's like Brexit isn't it? It's a surprise to everybody, you don't expect that to happen," Richard Jekiel said referring to the surprise result of Britain's decision to leave the European Union earlier this year.
"The expression 'You've been Trumped' again is going to be coming out in the near future," he added.
"It's going to be quite uncertain today, I think on the financial markets, and things could see quite a lot of problems, unfortunately," Ollie Smith said.
Others were "saddened" along with surprised, while some saw the humour in the result of America's unconventional presidential race.
"You've got a good businessman in the White House but he's got some crazy ideas," said Paul Sinclair.
Republican Donald Trump stunned the world by defeating heavily favored Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's presidential election, ending eight years of Democratic rule and sending the United States on a new, uncertain path. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
