(SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW YORK VOTER, ANGELO BARRETO, SAYING: "More than ever I think it would be Hillary Clinton that I would vote for. She sounds to me more stable and reasonable as opposed to Donald. So much blaming and finger pointing, verbally, and he can't show proof when it's time to show proof. One of the things is his taxes of course. So, I gave up hope on him. Sorry. Hillary here we go. In this lifetime for me it would be my first female president, let's put it that way. I hope it works out." (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW YORK VOTER, LOUISA HOLMBERG, SAYING: "I am probably voting for Hillary Clinton. I have been a fan of hers my entire life. I campaigned for her back when I was in high school, and so today to finally vote for her, I think she stands for equality and acceptance, and I believe that love trumps hate and I love her so much, and I hope she wins, I don't know who will win though." (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW YORK VOTER, SHREYA JOYCE, SAYING: "I'm voting for Clinton because, I don't know, why would I vote for Trump? And, I think, hopefully Clinton wins, it's pretty close, I think." (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW YORK VOTER, MARK MCNEASE, SAYING: "For Hillary Clinton, absolutely, because I think she's going to make a great president, and I think she's been maligned for 25 years and a lot of people believe things that have been said about her. I don't believe them. It's weighing on me now that she'll be the first woman president. I tried to discount that and not let that come into it but it's pretty astonishing that that could happen after 240 years." (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW YORK VOTER, JULIANNE MAYS, SAYING: "I'm voting for Hillary. Why? Because she has experience and is everything that I want in a candidate compared to what our other option is." - Story Text: Election Day has finally arrived in the U.S. and voters are showing up early at the polls to cast their ballot for the next president.
Long lines could be seen at the polling place Baruch College in New York City on Tuesday (November 8), with every voter Reuters talked to choosing Democrat Hillary Clinton for president.
Clinton and Republican Donald Trump face the judgment of the voters on Tuesday as millions of Americans are expected to turn out on Election Day to pick the next U.S. president and end a bruising campaign that polls said favored Clinton.
"I'm voting for Clinton because I have friends that are minorities, I have friends that are gay, and the tone that Trump has set has been so offensive to me," said Jennifer Chapman.
"Hillary here we go," said Angelo Barreto.
"I am probably voting for Hillary Clinton," said Louisa Holmberg. "I have been a fan of hers my entire life. I think she stands for equality and acceptance, and I believe that love trumps hate, and I love her so much, and I hope she wins."
"I'm voting for Clinton because why would I vote for Trump?" said Shreya Joyce.
"Hillary Clinton, absolutely, because I think she's going to make a great president," said Mark McNease. "It's weighing on me now that she'll be the first woman president. I tried to discount that and not let that come into it but it's pretty astonishing that that could happen after 240 years."
"She has experience and is everything that I want in a candidate compared to what our other option is," said Julianne Mays.
In a battle centered largely on the character of the candidates, Clinton, 69, a former secretary of state and first lady, and Trump, 70, a New York businessman, made their final, fervent appeals to supporters late on Monday (November 7) to turn out the vote. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
