- Story Text: Palestinian woman Ranim Abed Al Raheem Ahmad Safadi works as a blacksmith, a role traditionally dominated by males.
Safadi says difficult circumstances led her to choose what is an unusual trade for a woman.
"I never thought I would be working in this field, I started working in it to help my husband under difficult circumstances we went though," she said.
She picked up the tools of the trade from her husband, with whom she runs their workshop.
"First I learned the names of metal and their measurements, of which there is a wide variety. Then I started to weld, cut and gather metal," she said.
Her husband Amjad Kamel says his wife joined him in the business after he had a work accident.
Safadi found it difficult to work in the beginning, but says her family has been very supportive. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
