- Story Text: Tilda Swinton walked the red carpet for her starring role in the chilling independent feature, "We Need to Talk About Kevin." The drama, adapted from a 2003 novel, takes a hard look into the relationship between a mother and child. The mother, played by Swinton, never connects emotionally to her child, Kevin. Later on, the child commits a heinous crime that has the mother questioning how well she raised Kevin.
When asked how nature versus nurture played into the film, Swinton responded, "I mean its just a big old question, what makes people who they are and how responsible is our mother for everything. To a certain extent, it's just a nightmare. Just a big old fantasy, nightmare."
Reviews have been positive for the film with the stars of the film generating a strong buzz for their performances.
John C. Reilly, who plays Kevin's father said, "There is intense things that happen in it. But I think, Lynne really tried to tell the story in a really original way and in as truthful way as she could." Reilly went on to say, "I prefer that kind of intensity to mindless violence."
"We all know people that didn't get along with their children, and we all know people who didn't get along with their parents. It's kinda taboo to talk about it. But, it's real. It does happen," said Swinton.
The thriller took home the best film at this year's BFI London Film Festival.
