- Story Text: Philippine police dogs received a blessing from a church in Manila Sunday (October 2) to protect them from dangers while on duty.
Called by event organizers as "superhero dogs", a dozen Labradors and German shepherds from Manila's bomb and rescue squads were read Bible scriptures and sprinkled with holy water ahead of World Animals' Day on Tuesday (October 4).
"I blessed them because I believe these dogs are also the creations of God who help us and accompany us in our journey in this life so these dogs are for peace, these dogs are for friendship and love. So I'm here to bless them as a gesture of gratitude for the services that they have given to us," said priest Arnell Recinto.
Police commando Rogelio Daculan said they brought bomb-sniffing dogs to church to boost their handlers' morale as well as to ask for "divine protection".
Daculan said dogs deployed in police operations face extreme dangers and that canines are the first to be exposed to potential explosive devices. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
