- Story Text: HBO's new sci-fi series "Westworld," a deep and dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, is hoping to find its place among the landscape of excellence that currently resides in Television. And judging by the immense talent that was on display for the series' red carpet premiere on Wednesday (September 28), there is a better than good chance it will find a home.
"Everything, the writing is is the best writing I've read maybe or that I've been a part of really ever," said Evan Rachel Wood, who plays Delores Abernathy in the series. "It's my favorite role I've ever played in, my favorite project I've been involved with the cast alone is incredible. And then you have people like Lisa joy and you know Jonathan Nolan and J.J. Abrams."
Hollywood veteran actor Jeffrey Wright echoed Wood's sentiments.
"My collaborators on this are some of the most creative, ingenious folks that I've worked with in the business," said Wright. "J.J. Abrams, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy and then Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton and my man James Marsden here, I mean bring Evan Rachel Wood, you know start there and you know it makes for a good ride."
Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, both of whom share executive producing credits with Abrams, created the one-hour dramatic series for television.
The show, which is based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film "Westworld," features a powerhouse cast and a deep and thought provoking storyline.
"Westworld" is set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, and explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.
"Just sort of like examining the human behavior behind it," explained Marsden. "As well like humans coming to town and basically without consequences can kill people and sleep with prostitutes and do whatever they want and kind of live out any sort of sadistic fantasy they want. There's no societal repercussions, so it's just I think it's really a fertile ground for storytelling."
The one-hour drama series kicks off its ten-episode season on October 02, on the HBO cable network. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
