- Story Text: Finland's Valtteri Bottas and Brazilian Felipe Massa of Williams said on Thursday (October 27) it was important for them to beat Force India ahead of the Formula One race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Sunday.
"We're battling in the championship with Force India so, that is definitely the priority for us as a team. We need both cars in front of them and personally I was on the podium last year here in Mexico and that was an incredible feeling, to feel the atmosphere and of course you always try to be there again," Bottas said during a party hosted by Williams where the drivers had the opportunity to meet with fans and the media.
The altitude and slippery surface made the race - last year - more challenging while one of the biggest crowds of the year produced a memorable atmosphere.
Massa said it was an advantage to race for a second time as they already knew the track.
"Yes, as Valtteri said the second time we know the track, we understand more of less what to expect. We have a big fight in front of us with Force India. I know you have Checo racing for Force India but it's very important for us to try to be in front of them and me and Valterri, that's the only thing we're trying to achieve," Massa said.
Mexico returned to the Formula One calendar last year after a 23-year-absence. Sunday will be the 17th time Mexico has held a championship grand prix.
Mexico currently has two drivers on the starting grid, Force India's podium-chasing Sergio Perez and Haas F1's Esteban Gutierrez, who has yet to score this season.
The Mexico circuit is the highest altitude of any on the calendar (2,200 metres above sea level) and the pit straight is one of the longest in Formula One. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
