- Story Text: Former captain of the Brazilian soccer team and contemporary of Pele, Carlos Alberto Torres, died on Tuesday (October 25), after having suffered a heart attack.
Alberto captained the side to World Cup glory in 1970 and scored one of the most renowned goals of the competition's history in the final against Italy.
He died at 72-years-old in his hometown, Rio de Janeiro, where he had coached a spread of the local league's top teams including, Botafogo, Fluminense and Flamengo, among others.
Throughout his 19-year career, Alberto also played for California Surf, New York and Santos, which said in a statement following his death that he had etched his name in the history of the club.
