- Story Text: Spanish police said on Monday (October 24) they were still unaware of motive behind the killing of a Brazilian couple and their two children in Guadalajara, Spain, but that their nephew Patrick Nogueira, 20, accused of the crime, said he had an unstoppable desire to kill.
"I am sure you are all anxious to know the motive, the intention, the reason why Patrick killed the family. It isn't clear, what we can say is that Patrick tells us at all times that he is not crazy and that he always had an unstoppable desire to kill and that he couldn't stop himself," Spanish Police Commander Juan Jose Reina told a news conference in Madrid.
The bodies of Marcos Campos Nogueira, 30, Janaina Santos Americo, 30 and their two children aged four and one were found dismembered in plastic bags in their home in Pioz on September 20 after neighbours complained about an unusual smell coming from the house.
Spanish police said investigators had come to the conclusion that Nogueira felt animosity towards his uncle Marcos and described the sequence of events, according to his testimony, from the time he arrived at the home of his relatives.
"Patrick told us that when he was in the kitchen talking to Janaina he stabbed her. He says he does not remember how he killed the children, he does not remember, or says he does not recall, how he cleaned the house and always makes reference to memory lapses he had over that time," Reina said.
Reina said Nogueira waited for his uncle to arrive in the evening and then killed him too.
He spent the night in the house and left the next morning.
Nogueira fled to Brazil 48 hours after the bodies of his relatives were discovered and returned voluntarily to Spain to turn himself in to Spanish police on October 19.
Police said they were waiting for the final forensic report to establish how the bodies were dismembered but, apart from particular details, the case is considered close with the arrest of Nogueira. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
