Islamic State militants attacked several Iraqi police buildings and the Dibis power station on Friday (October 21) in a major counter-attack on Kirkuk.
Islamic State's assault on Kirkuk, which lies in an oil- producing region, killed 18 members of the security forces and power station workers outside the city, including two Iranians, a hospital source said.
A dead Islamic State militant and several killed power station workers were seen at the Dibis site.
At least eight militants were killed in the Kirkuk offensive, either by blowing themselves up or in clashes with the security forces, security sources said. Kurdish forces had dislodged the militants from all the police and public buildings they had seized before dawn, they said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
