- Story Text: Embarking on the start of his journey into cinema, Harshvardhan Kapoor makes his debut as lead in "Mirzya", following in both his father and sister's footsteps.
At the film's European premiere at the BFI London film festival, one of Bollywood's most famous families showed up to give Harshvardhan support.
25-year-old Harshvardhan told Reuters that he didn't feel pressured to have to live up to his father Anil Kapoor and sister Sonam's reputations.
"I don't really think about those things too much. As an actor, especially when you do a film like this. Every morning you wake up and have something to achieve in order to kind of get there. So that takes up your mindspace and you don't have the time to think about lineage and all of those things. So I was just consumed by the responsibility," he said.
He added that during the time between his father's debut in 1979 and his own debut, Bollywood has become a very different industry.
"That kind of working atmosphere and the kind of films people were watching were so different ...I think everybody needs to have their own path and their own journey," he added.
Kapoor performs alongside Saiyami Kher in a tale of two star crossed lovers, based on the punjabi story of Mirza Sahiban.
His father Anil said he and Harshvardhan's mother Sunita feel a different kind of nerves watching their children perform, compared to his own acting career.
He told Reuters he would never interfere or coach his children's performances.
"I feel you have to leave them alone and they make their own journey, their own mistakes and learn from their mistakes. You should always be there but you can't make decisions for them. They make their own decisions," he said.
"It's his first movie, I've been in this industry since nine years and nine years later my brother is debuting with a director who I worked with nine years ago so I'm pretty excited about him. It's almost like a full circle," said his sister, actress, Sonam Kapoor.
Director of the romantic thriller, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, predicts big things in the future from the 25-year-old.
"It's a great first step I must say and he's got a long way to go and I'm sure you will see a lot of him," he said.
