- Story Text:Memorabilia belonging to some of the greatest and most iconic rock n' roll figures of all time will be going up for auction in Los Angeles next month in a sale that will give collectors and music fans the opportunity to get their hands on items used and worn by their musical heroes.
The auction, which features sought-after items that have belonged to music legends Slash, Prince, Eric Clapton and the Beatles, to name just a few, is being held by Julien's Auctions on November 5.
Julien's Auctions property specialist Isabel Yeo said one of the most coveted items in the auction is a guitar used by Guns N' Roses rocker Slash.
"One of the biggest highlights from the collection that we're selling in November is the Slash guitar. The red guitar is one of the guitars that he started his very, very notable career with. The guitar is estimated at 68,000 to 80,000 dollars. But we definitely expect it to go for a lot more than that because of its historical value," explained Yeo.
Guitar virtuoso Eric Clapton has put up more than 20 personal items for the auction, including clothing, boots and other memorabilia, with all proceeds going to Clapton's Crossroads Centre which provides treatment for people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
"Everything that we're selling from Eric Clapton in this collection is signed by hand, consigned by him and very important to him. All proceeds are going to charity," explained Yeo.
Also up for grabs on November 5 are some of Elvis Presley's distinctive purple sunglasses which are estimated to fetch between $8,000 and $10,000.
"Elvis Presley sunglasses. They're his TCB sunglasses, so they definitely will be going for a lot of money as well. Elvis Presley as you know always wore his purple sunglasses, he had many of them. This is one of the many TCB sunglasses that we're selling," said Yeo.
Another item which collectors have their eye on is a blue microphone used by the late Prince that is estimated to fetch $2,000 to $4,000.
"A piece of memorabilia in this auction is Prince's stage used microphone. We have photos of him playing it, it is very documented. We have a little conservative estimate on it but we definitely expect it to go for a lot more especially in light of his passing," said Yeo.
Prince's 1959 Gibson L48 guitar is also up for auction with an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000.
Other notable items featured in the sale are a jacket worn by Michael Jackson and a signed Beatles LP.
