- Story Text: An unusual present was prepared for Russian President Vladimir Putin's 64th birthday in the city of St Petersburg.
Azamat Dzhanaliyev, a travelling artist from Kyrgyzstan made a portrait of Russian leader in his youth using nails and thread.
"I have chosen to make a portrait of him in his childhood, as he grew up in St Petersburg," Dzhanaliyev said.
Dzhanaliyev said the idea of the technique was partly borrowed from the internet and partly from his life experience.
"Actually they used to build houses in Kyrgyzstan in my childhood when I lived in a village (using this technique)," he said.
The artist plans to travel around the world, visit more than 120 counties and raise money for the trip making similar images of the local leaders.
"This is the new history for the future generations, since we (Kyrgyz nation) do not have a person who travelled around the world, I want to be the first one. (I want) to create the new history," he said.
It is not the first nail and thread piece Dzhanaliyev has made. He has also made portraits of Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, Russian Emperor Peter the Great and Akhmat Kadyrov, father of the contemporary Chechen leader. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
