- Story Text:Puppet presidential candidates squared off in New York on Monday (September 26) a few hours ahead of their human counterparts' first presidential debate.
Both puppet Hillary Clinton and puppet Donald Trump took tough questions from a human moderator, discussing topics such as climate change and women's rights.
"It's a hoax. It's hoax, it's fake, it's fake. You've got Bill Nye the science guy, and Neil deGrasse Mike Tyson saying whatever they want. We all know the sun is going to crash into the Earth, we know it's fine. It's huge, it's huge," puppet Trump said about climate change.
When asked what their impressions of each other were after their first debate, puppet Clinton said: "I expected him to be crass and rude, and he delivered. So I guess he delivered on his promise."
Puppet Trump said that Clinton "is a two, a three on a good day."
The event was hosted by Avenue Q, a Broadway musical starring both people and puppets.
The puppets' human counterparts will face off for the first time on Monday in a presidential debate that could rank as one of the most watched, highly anticipated political showdowns in U.S. history.
The tight race for the White House and the unpredictable clash in styles between well-known but polarizing foes has generated wide interest in the potentially pivotal encounter, which comes six weeks before the Nov. 8 election after a campaign that has stretched over more than a year.
The gap between the two candidates in recent national opinion polls has narrowed in the past week, with the latest Reuters/Ipsos polling showing Clinton ahead by 4 percentage points, with 41 percent of likely voters. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
