- Story Text: The tug-of-love for a British girl who wants to stay with her Pakistani father ends after her mother agreed to give up the legal fight in return for rights to visit her daughter in Pakistan. The girl said she would be happy to see her mother but had no intention of returning to Scotland.
A custody row over a British girl who wanted to stay in Pakistan ended on Thursday (January 18) after her mother agreed to let her stay in Pakistan.
Twelve-year-old Misbah Irum Rana, known as Molly Campbell in British, sparked legal battles in Britain as well as Pakistan after she left her mother in the Western Isles of Scotland and travelled to the Pakistani city of Lahore to be with her father last summer.
"I'm really, really happy that I can stay in Pakistan now. I am glad that I can stay in Pakistan now and I can go on with my life," Misbah Irum Rana said.
"Finally, the compromise is that all cases by all the parties will be withdrawn and the mother is going to give up her full right to custody. She'll only claim visitations. That we have conceded in and visitation to in Pakistan," Abdul Qayum, lawyer of Misbah's father, Sajad Ahmed Rana, told reporters after a hearing in country's Supreme Court.
"What is important is that now the matter is over for all times to come at all courts. She (Louise Campbell, mother of Misbah Rana) is willing to withdraw her case from Pakistani courts; she will be withdrawing her case from Scotland also, the mother. And if she comes to Pakistan, she will have full access to all the children and the father will also bear the costs," he added.
Under the deal, the mother, Louise Campbell could visit her daughter and two sons living with their father in Pakistan any time.
Rana also assured the court that he would allow Campbell to visit Scotland whenever she wanted, though the girl said she did not want to go.
Misbah Rana told reporters she would see her mother if she came to Pakistan, but would not travel to Scotland to visit her.
Lahore High Court had awarded custody of the girl to Campbell last November, but Rana appealed that ruling.
The compromise ran into stalemate on Wednesday (January 17) after Rana refused to send back his daughter to Scotland for holidays.
The mother has not come to Pakistan for any hearing due to ill health and financial problems.
Rana said he was willing to bear all expenses for Campbell whenever she wanted to visit her children. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
