- Story Text: During the up coming football World Cup in Germany, eight teams will be based in North-Rhine Westphalia - and the city of Duisburg is looking forward to welcoming Italy in the picturesque 4-star hotel "Landhaus Milser."
The hotels 60 rooms will all be occupied by the Italian team.
"We are offering them the facility exclusively. They can do what they like. We are installing air conditioning and a games and TV room to make them feel at home during the training. There will be Italian TV stations and SKY, something Italians like to watch. We also have a big garden in the back with a lake. So they can do what they want," co-owner of the hotel Antonio Pelle told Reuters Television
The city of Duisburg has a long tradition of football. With two teams, MSV and FCR Duisburg (men and women) make Duisburg one of the football capitals in the Ruhr region. The proud hotel owner Pelle is looking forward to have his native Italian team staying in his castle like hotel:
"I think its a nice a dream. For me as an Italian its a great thing and for my friends too. We are not talking about just any squad, we are talking about the Italians. Italians in Germany where always something special happens. I think Germany owes us something because in 1980 Germany won the European Championships in Italy, 10 years later they became world champions. So who knows what will happened this year."
For the Italian team it has been very important that the players will be served their favourite food during the intensive world cup.
"I would guess that for the Italians there is only Italian cuisine. They are bringing a supervisor with them, someone who checks the food but the cooks will probably be our own. They have enough experience and it is not the first time that a team has stayed with us or held training here," Pelle, himself also a master chef, told Reuters.
Situated in a beautiful landscape, "Sportpark Wedau" offers sport fans everything they desire. In its centre: the "MSV-Arena", a brand new multi-functional stadium.
Italy's soccer stars will find excellent training facilities at the Westender Straße, where MSV also trains. Football enthusiasts from Duisburg and Italy are looking forward to public training sessions.
"Maybe we will become world champions. That would not just be dream that would be like in movie. We could than write a storybook and film it." Pelle says with a great smile
