- Story Text: Lindsay Lohan was taken to jail on Tuesday (July 20) to start a 90-day jail term for violating her probation on a 2007 drunk-driving and cocaine-possession charge.
"Lindsay is complying with Judge Revel's orders. She's completed the alcohol program. She's gone into custody. She asks for your prayers and support. She stepped up. She accepted responsibility," said her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley after Lohan was taken into custody.
Lohan's father, Michael, was in court. Afterwards, he stood by his lawyer, Lisa Bloom, as she made a statement on his behalf.
"Many of you have asked what his reaction is to his daughter being incarcerated this morning: Michael spent the morning praying for his daughter. He loves her. He does not believe that she should be incarcerated. He's devastated that she's going to jail and he stands ready, willing, and able to help her anytime," said Bloom.
Media outlets followed a convoy, reportedly transporting Lohan, along Los Angeles highways and into a private garage at a jail in Lynnwood, California.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Steve Whitmore, said that so far, Lohan was cooperating with authorities.
"She has been extremely cooperative and everything is going smoothly. Right now, she's going through a triage which has to do with the medical, psychological routine with any inmate that comes into custody," said Whitmore.
Lohan is expected to serve her jail time in isolation for her own security. Her time behind bars could be reduced to about three weeks under programs for good behavior and jail overcrowding. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
