- Story Text: Foreign Ministers from Black Sea Economic Cooperation member states met in Turkey's Istanbul on Saturday (December 15).
Turkey handed over its chairmanship of the organisation to Ukraine after the meeting.
Ukrainian foreign minister Konstantyn Hryshchenko said his country would work to reduce trade barriers in the region.
"Our chairmanship in the BSEC would be also aimed at the closure and elimination of the barriers in mutual trade. We will do everything possible to activate our efforts joint to create a regional free trade area which should be in the best intrest of all participating states."
He also said his country supported better transport links in the Black Sea region.
"We in the last year supported initiatives by Turkey and Russia on the development of multimodal transport in the Black Sea region. But we also added our own initiative of the use of the combined transport train Viking which would link south and north in the corridor which would be very beneficial as well as the transport corridor uniting Europe and Asiatic regions."
According to the BSEC website, the organisation is "aimed at fostering interaction and harmony among the Member States, as well as to ensure peace, stability and prosperity encouraging friendly and good-neighbourly relations in the Black Sea region." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
